E2F
Developer's Symposium
The Enterprise and Empowerment Foundation of Norfolk State
University is pleased to invite you to our first ever
Developer’s Symposium to be held on
April 19-20, 2005, at the
L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center on the campus of
Norfolk State University.
Your rsvp must be received
no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 11, 2005.
Founded in 2000, the Enterprise and Empowerment Foundation
(E2F) is an independent
501-(c)-(3) subsidiary of Norfolk State University. Our
mission is to provide products and services that promote
applied research and technological innovations that, in
turn, contribute positively to the economic strength of the
Hampton Roads region (which includes the Cities of
Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth,
Poquoson, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and
Yorktown, and the Counties of Gloucester, James City and
York).
The Foundation’s flagship product is the Research and
Innovations to Support Empowerment (RISE) Marie V. McDemmond Center for Applied Research, a 25-acre
public/private applied research and technological campus.
Our vision for the RISE Campus™ is that it will be a
strategic hub for applied research, generation of
technological innovations, and serve as a premier gateway
for ultra-high broadband access in Hampton Roads. These
assets will in turn be catalysts for economic development of
the region.
The RISE Campus™ will eventually be home to a total of 6
facilities. The first of these facilities, the Marie V. McDemmond Center for Applied Research, is presently under
construction and will be a wholly state-owned academic and
applied research facility. The remaining 5 facilities will
be developed and funded via a strategic private/public
partnership. The RISE Campus™ is also home to the RISE
SuperNodeSM, a
private synchronous optical network with ultra-high capacity
designed to support bandwidths from 1.5 Mbps (DS-1) through
and including multiple 10 Gbps (OC-192) Lightwave networks.
It will provide premier regional access to all major
Points-of-Presence (gigaPOPs) and will link to the proposed
transatlantic Global Crossing.
With construction of the RISE Campus™ now well underway, the Enterprise and
Empowerment Foundation (E2F)
now seeks to partner with private entities to assist with
the development of the remainder of the RISE Campus™. Our
Developer Symposium is designed to give our prospective
partners an opportunity to meet E2F’s
Board of Directors and staff. At this event, your firm will
be asked to give a maximum one hour presentation addressing
issues such as land equity participation, pre-development
planning and feasibility, marketing, financing, etc. A
complete list of the items we will ask you to address during
your presentation is provided in the included document
titled “Developer Symposium --- Presentation Content”.
Additionally, you will be asked to provide the audience with
a portfolio of materials describing your company’s endeavors
that are similar to the RISE Campus™ vision.
In addition to the “Developers Symposium --- Presentation
Content” document mentioned earlier, we have also included
fact sheets for the RISE Campus™ and the RISE SuperNodeSM
for your reference. Finally, your package includes a
Registration Form.
